Developing People and Performance

A Brief History of Banking Reform After the New Deal As leader of the United States during the Great Depression, one of President Franklin D. Roosevelts essential arrangement objectives was to address issues in the financial business and money related division. FDRs New Deal enactment was his organizations answer to a large number of the countrys grave financial and social issues of the period. Numerous students of history arrange the essential purposes of focal point of the enactment as the Three Rs to represent alleviation, recuperation, and change. At the point when it went to the financial business, FDR pushed for change. The New Deal and Banking Reformâ FDRs New Deal enactment of the mid-to late-1930s offered ascend to new approaches and guidelines keeping banks from taking part in the protections and protection organizations. Before the Great Depression, numerous banks ran into inconvenience since they faced exorbitant challenges in the financial exchange or dishonestly gave credits to modern organizations in which bank chiefs or officials had individual ventures. As a quick arrangement, FDR proposed the Emergency Banking Act which was marked into law exactly the same day it was introduced to Congress. The Emergency Banking Actâ outlined the arrangement to revive sound financial foundations under the US Treasurys oversight and supported by government credits. This basic demonstration gave truly necessary impermanent stabilityâ in the industryâ but didn't accommodate the future. Determined to keep these occasions from happening again, Depression-period lawmakers passed the Glass-Steagall Act, which basically precluded the ble nding of banking, protections, and protection organizations. Together these two demonstrations of banking change gave long haul steadiness to the financial business. Banking Reform Backlash In spite of the financial changes achievement, these guidelines, especially those related with the Glass-Steagall Act, became dubious by the 1970s, as banks grumbled that they would lose clients to other money related organizations except if they could offer a more extensive assortment of monetary services. The government reacted by giving banks more noteworthy opportunity to offer purchasers new kinds of budgetary administrations. At that point, in late 1999, Congress authorized the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, which canceled the Glass-Steagall Act. The new law went past the impressive opportunity that banks previously delighted in offering everything from purchaser banking to endorsing protections. It permitted banks, protections, and protection firms to frame monetary combinations that could advertise a scope of money related items including shared assets, stocks and securities, protection, and car advances. Likewise with laws deregulating transportation, media communications, and different enterprises, the new law was relied upon to produce a flood of mergers among money related organizations. Banking Industry Beyond WWII For the most part, the New Deal enactment was fruitful, and the American financial framework came back to wellbeing in the years following World War II. Be that as it may, it ran into troubles again during the 1980s and 1990s to some extent in view of social guideline. After the war, the legislature had been anxious to encourage homeownership, so it made another financial division the investment funds and credit (SL) industry-to focus on making long haul home advances, known as home loans. Be that as it may, the reserve funds and credits industry confronted one significant issue: contracts normally ran for a long time and conveyed fixed loan costs, while most stores have a lot shorter terms. At the point when transient financing costs ascend over the rate on long haul home loans, investment funds and credits can lose cash. To secure investment funds and credit affiliations and banks against this projection, controllers chose to control loan fees on stores.

It was made of money boxes, keys, latches, records, deeds and substantial satchels fashioned in steel. Jacob is depicted with a ponytail, common petticoat, leggings, and boots; the tufts on the last bristling, similar to his braid, and his jacket skirts, and the hair upon his head. The second of the phantoms is the Ghost of Christmas Past. This also is depicted clearly, however in an alternate method to Jacob Marley. It was a bizarre figure-like a kid; yet not all that like a youngster as like an elderly person, saw through some extraordinary medium, which gave him the presence of having retreated from the view, and being decreased to a childs extents. Its hair, which hung about its neck and down its back, was white as though with age; but then the face had not a wrinkle in it, and the delicacy blossom was on the skin. The arms were long and solid; the hands the equivalent, as though its hold were of phenomenal quality. Its legs and feet, most gently shaped, were, similar to those upper individuals, bear. It wore a tunic of the most flawless white; and round its midsection was bound a shiny belt, the sheen of which was lovely. It grasped a part of new green holly; and, in particular logical inconsistency of that stormy token, had its dress cut with summer blossoms. : Be that as it may, the most peculiar thing about it was, that from the crown of its head there sprang a splendid away from of light, by which this was obvious; and which was certainly the event of its utilizing, in its more blunt minutes, an extraordinary quencher for a top, which it currently held under its arm. The light and the top that springs from the head can be deciphered as various things. Its main responsibility is to show Scrooge some upsetting recollections from past Christmass. He is an update apparition, who is causing him to feel liable. The third apparition is the Ghost of Christmas present. This one is an alternate sort of portrayal. This article of clothing hung so freely on the figure that its spacious bosom was exposed, as though despising to be warded or disguised by any ingenuity. Its feet, discernible underneath the sufficient folds of the article of clothing, were additionally exposed; and on its head it wore no other covering than a holly wreath, set to a great extent with sparkling icicles. Its dull earthy colored twists were long and free; free as its pleasant face, its shining eye, its open hand, its chipper voice, its unconstrained manner, and its happy air. Braced round its center was an old fashioned sheath; yet no blade was in it. Also, the antiquated sheath was eaten up with rust. This is indeed an admonition phantom. An apparition who is there to caution miser what his activities are never helping to individuals. The remainder of the apparitions is the Ghost of Christmas yet to come. Like the various spirits this is portrayed in huge detail, however in a somewhat unique path to the others. The others were unquestionably great, however the last one is covered in riddle and the exemplary pressure and climate begins to develop. This is the manner by which it is depicted. It was covered in a profound dark article of clothing, which hid its head, its face, its structure, and left nothing of it obvious, spare one outstretched hand. Be that as it may, for this, it would have been hard to disengage its finger from the night, and separate it from the murkiness by which it was encircled. We presently get into the more spooky feel. In the event that we take a gander at the characters which are not phantom yet profoundly required in the story we have the people in question. There are two of these in A Christmas Carol. They are Bob Cratchit and, obviously, none other then Ebenezer Scrooge. In spite of the fact that Bob isnt a casualty of the hauntings.

Speech About Love. Level Undergraduate

Sample Speech About Love Open Yourselves to the Great Unknown What is love? Perhaps, too many poets, philosophers, and writers have tried to answer this question. Have they succeeded? Well, if they had, I wouldn’t be giving you this short speech about love today. Don’t get me wrong: I don’t presume to discard millennia-worth of thought and provide you with a neat three-to five-word answer. It would be too audacious even for me. What I do want to achieve with this 3-minutes long oration is the clarity. If my public speaking about love provides greater clarity on how little we know about the subject, then my rusty speech writing skills are still worth something. As a school student, I was captivated by romantic tragedies such as Anna Karenina and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. These stories served as cautionary tales admonishing me about the consequences of unrequited love and flaming passion. It was at that time that I swore never to fall for the seductive romantic ideology – a belief that there is a soul mate who is meant for me. Admittedly, the belief still had its allure (otherwise, I wouldn’t find Coldplay listenable). However, its enduring intensity waned considerably. You might ask: â€Å"Why would I give such a reckless, hardheaded oath?† And the answer is simple: I made a tradeoff. It was the tradeoff between ascending briefly to the deep blue sky only to burn my wings and lasting lukewarm contentment with my mate. I wanted to outsmart Cupid. Checkmate, Love! Instead of looking for a soul mate, I decided to settle for â€Å"Let’s copulate, mate!† And boy, was I wrong†¦ But before I continue, let me ask: have you experienced an unyielding burning sensation in your chest fueled by a whiff of a person’s perfume, a hint of their smile, or even a fleeting thought about them? If so, then you already know what made me break my promise. And so I believed that my fate was sealed. I carried on with my life without giving a second thought to fancy-schmancy love. Rather than focusing on a close relationship, I was only interested in superficial romantic experiences with little emotional attachment. Put simply, I did not care about searching for my â€Å"lost half.† Until it found me. It was an explosion. The explosion of preconceived notions, taboos, and, of course, hormones. To my surprise, I wasn’t blown to smithereens by the 2000 ËšF blast. Instead, I became whole. What customers say about WriteMyPapers.com Two thumbs up!! Got an A- for my paper! Sophie Giannamore I earned the loudest applause with your speech! Thx!!! Gianni Joosten I dunno how Id make it on time without your help Jose Ramirez ORDER SPEECH NOW! My relentless belief into the innately tragic nature of love vanished instantaneously. And so did unimaginative, pragmatic man I once was. So, to answer my initial question, I still have no idea what love is. But I know that the turbulent ambiance inevitably following its arrival can fuel one’s transformation for the better. Love became the catalyst for change, and this change manifested itself in the birth of tangible and intangible idiosyncrasies, emotions, and ideas that replaced my old, coarse self. The one-dimensional mode of existence was broken. So, please, don’t eschew the great unknowable and earth-shattering force referred to as Love. The enduring, intense feeling cannot be sidestepped in favor of tepid, calculated relationship. Trust me, I tried and failed miserably. Love is simply too powerful. And it doesn’t care about your professed knowledge of it. To hell with pragmatism, practicality, and fear. Love and be loved! Want a speech written by the author of this sample? Or a speech on a similar topic? BUY A SPEECH NOW! Write Your Own Sample Speech About Love Using These Tips There are plenty of lousy speeches about love, and you don’t want to give another one. Therefore, you must be prepared. No extemporaneous speaking! Memorize the whole thing and go for the kill. When it is time to dazzle the audience, you should immediately grab their attention. Otherwise, people will fiddle with their phones and yawn through the whole speech. It must be motivational enough to make the audience listen. How to write such a speech? Let’s find out! Listen to a famous speech about love. There are scads of them on the Web. And no, the speech given by your uncle on his wedding doesn’t count. Life is short: don’t make your persuasive speech too long. Be memorable. In English, there are many powerful rhetorical devices and attention-grabbers that can be your trusted allies. Don’t squander valuable time by discussing tangential matters such as hate and friendship. Capitalize on the momentum of a powerful introduction and stay on the point. Add some humor. Without entertainment, speech will be boring and stiff. Even if your audience completely forgets your musings on the matter, they will remember how you made them feel. Therefore, try to elicit a couple of smiles. Use transitions. They alert the audience and indicate that something important or interesting is about to be said. Make sure that your manuscript contains factual and lyrical information. If possible, make it more informative by adding real-life examples. Ask for help. The use of professional assistance will result in a speech that would make Tony Robbins envious. Craft a strong ending. Add a call to action. Even if someone doesn’t like it, you’ll end on a climactic note. Thus, your speech will feel complete. Ask someone to edit and proofread your final manuscript. You don’t want to embarrass yourself in front of the audience with poor syntax or grammar. Use our sample speech about love for inspiration. If, however, after reading the example of speech about love, creative thoughts aren’t flooding your mind, then, use our professional speech writing services. As has been mentioned in the eighth tip, your speech should contain some factual information. Of course, its inclusion or lack thereof depends entirely on a creative direction you decide to take. If you opt for a factual approach to your speech writing, then split your oration into two parts: the empirical part and the lyrical part. Consider the following questions that will help you craft a powerful argumentative speech. The Factual Piece of Speech Is love a romantic or metaphysical feeling? Can you consider  love a feature of our body or is it something external that we only get to experience in the proper circumstances? Do you think love is something that gets developed intrinsically or is it something that develops from the synergy? Do you find it possible to teach yourself to  love and is this tied in any way to the nature of the phenomenon? If it is something internal (i.e., a function of our body), is it a product of our physical or mental abilities? Define and describe what is meant by the love between a living thing and an object. Is that true love or does it lack something? If so, is it a requirement that there should always be two people for love to spark? The Lyrical Piece Does love you feel for your friends, family or just people you’ve met impact your life? What parts of your life does love affect? Can you name it one of the underlying ideologies of your life? Would it be possible for you to live without the feeling of love? Are there any preconditions (just your perspective) for love between two people? Suggest how big love is and how much we need it in our daily lives. If we do require it, then for what purpose? Important Takeaway We hope that you’ve enjoyed the sample speech about the passionate and enduring feeling we call love. This sample speech about love has been published online to help you get inspiration for your own rhetoric. We thought it would be helpful to you to read somebody’s sample as it always creates a desire to craft something powerful and moving. If, however, speech writing isn’t your forte, let us help you. Case Study on Macys Inc., Balanced Scorecard - 825 Words

Case Study on Macy's Inc., Balanced Scorecard (Case Study Sample) Content: Name of Author:Institutional Affiliation:Name of Professor:Date of Submission:Case Study on Macy's Inc., Balanced ScorecardThe Balanced Scorecard and Its Key FeaturesThe Balanced Scorecard is one of the most successful and useful frameworks in strategic performance management, it assists corporations and other organizations in monitoring their performance and managing the implementation of their strategies (Nair 127). Further ahead, Nair exposed in a study that Balanced Scorecard is in the top ten of the worldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s most used management tools, and came in first as the one with the highest general satisfaction ratings (132). The most basic form of the Balanced Scorecard breakdowns the performance monitoring for an organization into four key features, which are also interconnected perspectives. They are: "Financial, Customer, Internal Processes and Learning and Growth" (Kaplan and David 4).How Balanced Scorecard is used to Measure PerformanceThe Balanced Scorecar d Institute (Strategic Management Group) highlights that performance measurement is captured in part in the Step 5 out of the 9 Steps to SuccessTM methodology. Under Step 5, performance measures are established for each and every strategic objective. In short, the Lagging and Leading measures are recognized, anticipated targets and corresponding thresholds are established, benchmarking and baseline data are then developed. Subsequently, the emphasis on strategic objectives, which ought to identify precisely what the business is trying to achieve, is important in identifying actual strategic measurements. The actual measurement or evaluation is done based on the four earlier logical perspectives, where an individual is expected to give a score based on his or her evaluation of success on the same (Kaplan and David 14).The Logical Relationships between the Four Key Areas of the Balanced ScorecardBy definition, the four key features of the Balanced Scorecard are: * The Financial Persp ective covers the financial objectives of a business, it enables managers to monitor the organizationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s stakeholder value and financial success. * The Customer Perspective encapsulates the customersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ objectives like market share goals, customer satisfaction, plus services and product attributes. * The Internal Process Perspective is concerned with an organizationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s main processes required to fulfill the customer goals, and internal operational goals. * The Learning and Growth Perspective come in as a perspective responsible for the intangible aspects influencing the future business success like an organizationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s capital, human capital, and the crucial information capital covering aspects like training, leadership, skills, leadership, organizational culture, databases and systems. In sum, the relationship of the four key aspects of the Balanced Scorecard can be best illustrated in the original "four-box model" as illustrated in Figure 1, below.F igure SEQ Figure \* ARABIC 1: A four-box model of Balanced Score CardUnder normal setting of a business organization that has been in operation for a while, the Learning and Growth Perspective influences the Internal Process Perspective. This is due to the great magnitude that organizational, human and information capital has on the internal practices of an organization. Successively, the Internal Process Perspective will be influencing the Customer Perspective, and it goes in that order up to the top, which is the Financial Perspective. This perspective "financial" is an indicator of the overall success of the company. The Overall Long-term Goals for Macyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s, Inc.With reference to the latest accessible facts on Macyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s, Inc., Facts Book 2012, whose information covers 2012 and 2013 fiscal years, the overall long term strategy for this company is to diversify and make their organization an inclusive organization (Kaplan and David 4). This long-term strategy was in fluenced by their earlier strategies. For instance, in 2009, Macy's Inc. had an exceptional long-term strategy of consolidating its merchandize and restructuring its organization. But, the level of success that has been witnessed by this company can only be maintained if they diversify. This diversification is not limited to introducing new products and so on, and it is a means of penetrating the multicultural market that they serve. Equally, inclusive long-term strategy will also influence success on the same business setting. In conclusio...

And now I speak of thanking God, I desire with all Humility to acknowledge, that I owe the mentions Happiness of my past Life to his kind Providence, which led me to the Means I used and gave them Success. (Franklin, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, 28) I chose this quote to open this essay because Its one of the first things Franklin talks about when he takes over in his autobiography. It shows that he has a relationship with god because he gives god the credit for all of the things he had accomplished.Throughout his biography he mentions religion quite a few times. He opposes organized religion, which according to him consists of: Attending Church, donating to pastors Ideas, and having to follow (In his opinion) Arbitrary rules. But he is all for believing In god. He says that for someone to believe In god all you need Is to pray honestly, be virtuous and do good works. Charmed by his marvel, he bought it for all the coins in his pocket. When he got home and exasperated everybody with his shrill whistling, he was teased by one and all for having paid such an exorbitant price for silly object, a lesson he never forgot.Spending your money unwisely not only makes you look foolish but it is wrong. This makes his father to send the eight year old boy to a special grammar school in his preparation for ministry, due to the expenses his father have a second thought and lulled him back out of grammar school and sent him to the ordinary school that Just taught reading, writing, and arithmetic. Another two years of formal education was all the schooling that Franklin ever received.Franklins father then chose for his son as an Apprenticeship trade, this was the principle means of skills for most young men in preparing for the world at that time, so he began training Franklin as candle and soap maker. But he did not like the cutting and the smell of it, and his father finally agreed to change his trade in the printing because of his Bookish el printing was the most fitted of requiring reading, spelling and writing ability witch Franklin enjoy doing best. That boy, as Franklin later recalled in his Autobiography, was extremely ambitious to become a tolerable English Writer. Ronald Reagon Essay Example For Students

Ronald Reagon Essay Ronald Reagans Space Shuttle ChallengerSince the presidency of George Washington, the people of The United States have turned to the commander in chief in times of distress to receive assurance and hope. Kurt Ritter comments on President Reagans address to the nation given on January 28, 1986 saying, Perhaps no president could have fulfilled the countrys need to mourn and, then, to begin to heal as skillfully as Ronald Reagan (Ritter, 3). On that morning the space shuttle Challenger violently exploded while the nation watched live televised coverage of the shuttles launch. President Reagan was scheduled to give his State of the Union Address on that date, but instead he reached out the country in this time of mourning. He spoke from his oval office to heartbroken teachers, children, NASA Space Engineers, and the entire country. President Reagans reaction to the tragedy of the challenger guided the United States out of despair and into a new light of hope behind seven fallen heroes. I n this essay I will show that Reagan gave our country a new light of hope through his emphasis on Pathos but also incorporating Ethos and Logos in this memorable presentation. There is no doubt that the when the President of the United States speaks everyone listens to what he has to say. This credibility makes the Ethos of Reagans Speech almost unsurpassable. As mentioned Reagan was scheduled to give a State of the Union Address to our country on the evening of January 28, 1986. Instead, he postponed it, because the story of the day was tragedy. Here he wanted to give an upbeat speech about America moving ahead. It just didnt fit. It seemed in congruous (Weinraub). He showed the country that his priority is the emotions of his people by, for the first time in history, postponing on the State of the Union speech in order to discuss the current event. This strengthened the creditability of his argument immensely. He likened the astronauts to pioneers and stated in his speech that The y had a special grace, that special spirit that says, Give me a challenge and Ill meet it with joy. With this he appeals to the spiritual side of his audience using the word grace to describe the fallen. Again, The president concluded by attaching the nations sorrow to Gods grace (Ritter, 4). He said As they prepared for there journey and waved goodbye and slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.' Reagans use of imagery, gave the people of the United States hope that there loved ones are now with God and gave them hope for a brighter future. President Reagan moderately used the appeal to logos in his speech but there were a few points that it was relevant. Logos was used to give the country background information on the space program when he said Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts on the ground. But weve never lost an astronaut in flight; weve never had a tragedy like this. He stated this information to convey to the nation that these types of tragedies do not occur often in our space program. He wanted to ease their minds of the thought that this would be a recurring problem. He strengthened the peoples support even furthur for the space program by saying that for 25 years the space program has been dazzling the country with its achievements. Reagan stated a coincidence or historical event that occurred in his speech as On this day 390 years ago, the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. He likened the dedication and pioneer efforts of Drake to those of t he deceased astronauts. The president used the logos appeal to strengthen the ethos and pathos appeal with facts and historical input. However, this appeal did add to the reaction of the audience toward returning their emotions toward a more stable state. .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 , .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .postImageUrl , .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 , .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2:hover , .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2:visited , .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2:active { border:0!important; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2:active , .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2 .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u59a8322938ebbb488edcca670eb6cdf2:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Aztecs (430 words) EssayGiven the situation, a national tragedy, and the tone of President Reagans speech, the main appeal to the audience is pathos. After Reagan described the reason for his speaking to the nation on that evening he immediately began to describe the emotions of the day. He sensitively exclaimed, Today is a day for mourning and remembering. The tragedy of the Challenger was a disturbing subject to all and he stated to the nation, in this sentence, that the nation would mourn together and that no one person would stand alone in their sorrows. By remarking that he and his wife had been pained to the core by the catastrophe, Mr. Reagan established an elegiac tone (Apple). Through his personal connection, he showed the nation that it was acceptable to be emotional about what had happened. He proclaimed the accident as truly and national loss. One of the passengers onboard the Challenger was a teacher named Christa McAulliffe and because her presence there was an unusually wide interest in the space program, particularly among school students (Ritter, 4). Later in the speech President Reagan addressed the schoolchildren of America directly. I know it is hard to understand, he told them, but sometimes painful things like this happen (Ritter, 4). Then In a sincere, calm manner, he imparted the events lessen: Its all part of the process of exploration and discovery. Its all a part of taking chances and expanding mans horizons. The future doesnt belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave (Ritter, 4). He explained to the children the reality of the situation and then asked them to be brave and not to grow fainthearted. He later gave t he nation a sense of hope for the future by announcing that nothing ends here. Reagans speech on the night of January 28, 1986 dramatically took the first step toward uniting the country in its grief (Ritter, 4). Ronald Reagan reached out to the schoolchildren of America and all other citizens of the United States to counsel them in time of tragedy. He gave hope to the nation through emotional and spiritual reference. He was effective in conveying his message but the way his thoughts were organized was in part ineffective. His speech is very unorganized, and he could have ordered his thoughts better. More importantly than disorganization though, Ronald Reagan reached out to a nation that needed him as there president. He gave the people of the United States hope and Reassurance, a task that the President has been expected to do since the beginning of our country. CitationsApple, R.W. Jr. President As Healer. Dance With The Devil Essay

Dance With The Devil Essay Dance With The Devil Essay Dance with the devil A young boy named William†¦. A young boy named William was trying his best to make a million. His poor old mother was working 12hour shifts to keep both of them alive. Meanwhile William was going to college and was studying hard. William and his poor ma lived in a ghetto central of New York. William felt sorry for his mother, working so hard, and was trying his best to help her out financially. Unfortunately he couldn’t get a job. He has made some new friends in college which has had an enormous impact on his life. Within two months of studying he has begun to develop a disgusting attitude, disgusting behaviour and disgusting language. William always wondered where his mates got their new clothes from. Where do they get their money from – he knew his friends’ parents were not rich enough to buy them all this. One day, his friend Tom asked him to take a little envelope and take it to the location on the envolope. Before he said yes he asked his friend what is in the envelope. His friend exp lained there were some drugs in there which needed to be delivered. If he did him this favour his friend would help him make some money. After just a month William was making good money. He managed to treat himself and help his poor mother financially; his mother wondered where he was getting all the money from – he always ignored that question. After a few months of William doing so well he wanted more, more and more. Afterwards William gets introduced to a few gang members by Tom. Gang members were not sure about William, they wanted him to prove how cold hearted he was – they wanted him to prove that he was as hard as a bicep. They told him he would have to kill someone – deep down inside William was afraid but replied with confidence â€Å"give me that gun and show me the target†. A few days’ later two gang members take William for a drive and they end up smoking drugs and drinking alcohol in a car. Around midnight they see a lady walking into a block of flats, so they slowly follow her. William felt really cold, he got really nervous. They put a bag over her head and took her o nto the roof and assaulted her – one of the gang members pulled out a gun and handed it over to William. They told him she was a witness and she had to die. They put the bag over her head. William was stunned. The woman in front of him was his mum. William felt extremely shocked, upset and guilty. He jumped off the roof. Never dance with the devil because the dance with the devil may last forever. This film is so important to me because it had a major impact on my life. From this film I have learnt that money isn’t everything. Money can’t buy happiness, and money can destroy people. Drugs? They are full of problems, they are full of trouble, and they are full of

A Woman To Her Lover Essay Example for Free

A Woman To Her Lover Essay ? Write a critical analysis of Christina Walsh’s poem ‘A Woman to Her Lover’. Compare and contrast the poem with others you have studied in the unit. Christina Walsh, a female poet, wrote the poem ‘A woman to her lover’ as a free verse. A free verse is a poem with an irregular stanza length, no rhyme scheme and no syllabus count. Writing it as a free verse reflects her point which is women is can change their attitude towards men. She broke all the rules of poetry, this shows that women do not have to be weak towards men, it does not have to be the same as tradition, the man does not have to control the women, they can have equal love. Stanza one in Christina Walsh’s poem suggests slavery. She uses the word ‘bond slave’, which means a slave that does something without saying anything. Christina Walsh uses an image of a war, ‘as conqueror to the vanquished’. As she is the defeated, then she is forced, which shows that they are enemies. She does not want to be possessed by any one, she refuses it, and ‘O Lover I refuse you!’ she also uses an exclamation mark that shows she is serious. Christina Walsh uses alliteration of the letter ‘b’ throughout the whole poem. This is called a labial plosive. ‘To bend†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢, ‘bond slave†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ and ‘to bear’ are used in stanza one, this shows that she is angry and being very assertive. ‘To bear your children, wearing out my life’ uses caesura to balance the two ideas. She is saying that if she gives him children, it is equivalent to wearing out her life. She tells him ‘O lover’ right after the caesura that makes the phrase very strong. It is emphasized. Stanza two in Christina Walsh’s poem suggests a very different idea. It shows that she does not want to be treated as an angel that never does any mistakes or to be worshiped as a goddess, no one is perfect and neither is she. ‘Go! – I am no doll to dress and sit for feeble worship’, this shows that she thinks it is pathetic to treats someone like they are perfect and that they are just there to pleaseyou.Throughout the stanza, Christina Walsh uses alliteration in the letter ‘w’, ‘wed†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢, ‘word and wish’, ‘wingless†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ and ‘worship†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ This gives a soft sound that reflects how the man sees the women. She then uses the word ‘Go!’ to show that what she is saying is straightforward, which again shows that she is against being loved for her beauty and perfecti on. She then calls him a ‘fool’ and tells him again, ‘I  refuse you’. This shows that she is convinced with her point and the repetition shows that she I against both points she has mentioned. ‘Sonnet CXXX’ by William Shakespeare can be linked with the second stanza of Christina Walsh’s poem. They both agree about the same idea. They both suggest that women should not be loved for her beauty. At the beginning of the sonnet, the reader starts to feel that Shakespeare hates the women. He says ‘My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun’, this shows that she is not good looking; she is not beautiful. However, he concludes that even though she is not beautiful he loves her more than any beautiful girl has ever beenloved. The poem is a sonnet. This means it contains fourteen lines made up of three quatrains and a rhyming couplet at the end. Only in Shakespeare’s sonnets, the rhyming couplets conclude his point. It is also written in iambic pentameter. Shakespeare is against the idea of tradition and courtly love; he is against the idea that the man describes the women as if she is the most beautiful women on earth. He says that his love to his mistress is ‘rare’ even though he does not describe her as beautiful. Describing her as beautiful would be ‘false compare’. The third stanza in ‘A Woman to Her Lover’ Christina Walsh is trying to show us that she will not be a sex object that satisfies her husband’s desires, and neither will any women of her time. She says ‘not for you the hand of any wakened woman of our time’. She uses the word ‘wakened’ to show that this concept is not for any woman, it is for any aware and educated woman that knows her rights. Christina Walsh repeats the word ‘Or’ in both stanza two and stanza three. This shows that she has a list of ideas that she will make her refuse a man. She also uses the word ‘creature’. This shows that if she accepts the face that a man wants to marry her tofu fill his desires then that is not any better than animals.   She says ‘women of our time’ to show that this way of a relationship is old-fashioned and no one will accept, as now it is not the same as the olddays. The poem ‘To his coy mistress’ shows a teenager that is trying to convince his girlfriend to have sex with him. The boy gives her a list of reasons why she should have sex with him now.   A Woman To Her Lover. (2016, Aug 28).

Analysis for Higher Learning Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Analysis for Higher Learning - Essay Example As the report declares the movie â€Å"Higher Learning† is a drama about different issues of university student life, especially as they relate to all kinds of prejudice: sexual, racial, social included. Racial prejudice is one of the main themes. At the start of this movie, we can see one of the movie’s main characters, Remy, who is an outcast and misfit, ignored by another students. We also find Kristen, who has a little bit racial discrimination and isn’t sure of her own identity yet, and Malik, who is an African American confused about his own identity. Each of them ironically share some of the same prejudices toward each other and others. Each of them value some of the same things about life but do not realize they have anything in common. This essay stresses that when Malik gets on the elevator and meets Kristen by chance, Kristen reflexively grabs her bag, even though they have never seen each other. Malik notices and shakes his head to himself, accustomed to the scenario. This is the introduction to racial tension in the movie. The point that we should consider is why Kristen did that. If she had personally had a bad experience with a black person, it would be understandable. But what is more likely is that Kristen had the fear of being alone with a black man because of her preconceived bias and her lack of relationships with black people in her primarily caucasion neighborhood near Disneyland.

Factors of production and circular flow of income Coursework - 2

Factors of production and circular flow of income - Coursework Example According to Samuelson (2010) the central concern of economics is solving three vital problems: what to produce, how to produce and for whom and the solution lies in making choices between inputs and outputs. The aim of this paper is thus to discuss the factors of production and the circular flow of income. To achieve this, the paper will be divided into various sections. The first section will be discussion on what economics is and the problems it seeks to address. It will also cover the importance of economics and brief explanation of different economies such as the market, command and mixed economy as mechanisms of allocating scarce resources. The second section will address the factors of production: land, labour, capital and enterprise. It will discuss their functions, qualities and how their productivity can be improved. The third section will discuss the circular flow of income which shows flow of inputs and outputs between firms and households or at microeconomics level. Last ly, a brief summary of the main points will be given. What is economics and why study economics? Samuelson (2010: 4) defines economics as â€Å"the study of how societies use scarce resources to produce valuable goods and services and distribute them among different individuals.† It aims at producing the highest combination of quality and quantity of goods and services thus enhancing efficiency. Efficiency according to Samuelson is achieved when no individual’s economic welfare can be improved unless someone else is made worse off (p. 5). When efficiency is achieved the welfare of the whole society is improved. Many people might think that it is not essential to study economics but it has a lot of benefits. According to Lipsey and Chrystal (2011) economics is important in helping to understand the world in which we live and to become astute participants in the economy. It helps us to understand business cycles in relation to credit, unemployment and policies put in pla ce to deal with such crises. It also helps people to understand international trade and the effects of globalisation especially in modern era where production has gone global. Government policies to promote economic growth, use of resources, full employment and price stabilisation are also the product of economic analysis. Economics takes a scientific approach to analysis of issues in the economy and also applies econometrics to economic problems. It is based on the principle of holding other things constant when analysing variables (Gitman and McDaniel, 2008). Economics is divided into two categories: micro and macroeconomics. Microeconomics deals with markets, firms and households while macroeconomics deals with the whole economy but we shall concentrate on microeconomics. Human wants are numerous or unlimited and as stated earlier, resources are scarce. As such, it is difficult to satisfy the unlimited wants thus choices have to be made that would lead to efficient allocation of resources. For example, if a firm decides to produce household items, it foregoes the opportunity or alternative of producing industrial items or any other product. The benefits the firm could have gotten by dealing with industrial items (the next best alternative) are what Samuelson (2010) calls opportunity cost. Economics is all about making choices on what to produce, how to produce and for whom given technology and scarce resources (Wessels, 2006). Whatever choice is

Autism :: Disorder Genes Autism Essays

Autism Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. This is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain. Autism is four more times prevalent in boys than girls. Autism shows no racial, ethnic or social boundaries. Family income, lifestyle and educational levels do not affect the chance of autism's occurrence. Autism and its associated behaviors have been estimated to occur in as many and one in 500 individuals. In this essay, I will discuss the signs and symptoms of autism, types of autism, the diagnosis of autism and studies done on autism. Autism affects the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Children and adults with autism have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions and leisure or play activities. This disorder makes it hard for them to relate to the outside world. It is hard for them to communicate with others. Aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior may be present in some cases. They may exhibit repeated body movement, such as hand flapping or rocking, unusual responses to people or attachments to objects and resistance to changes in routines. They possibly will experience sensitivities in the five senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. Children will be within the pervasive development until the ages of 24-30 months, when parents may notice delays in language, play or social interaction. If any of these symptoms occur by themselves, that would not result in a diagnosis of autism. Autism is a combination of several developmental challenges. There are many symptoms of autism. They include: extreme difficulty in learning language, inappropriate response to people, avoiding eye contact, resisting being picked up or cuddled, uncooperative play with other children, extreme hyperactivity and many others. There are five major areas in children highly affected by autism. They are communication, social interaction, sensory impairment, play and behavior. Every person with autism has a unique personality and combination of characteristics. Some autistic people mildly affected may exhibit only slight delays in language and communication and greater challenges with social interactions. The abilities of an autistic child may fluctuate from day to day due to difficulties in processing, concentration or anxiety. They may show evidence of learning one day, but not the next. Learning can be affected by external stimuli and anxiety. They may have average or above average verbal, memory or spatial skills but find it difficult to be imaginative or join in activities with others.

Title of your paper

It feels like such a long time since I last saw you. I know I've only been away for only a few weeks, but so far my vacation here at Greece has been great! I'm currently staying at the Academy.I found a friend who shares the same passion with me in philosophy and he asked me to come with him to this place to meet other people. I'm very glad to stay here, I've learned a lot from various people.Anyways, yesterday I was walking along Agora or the city market and found some really great stuffs to buy and take home. In this place I found many people who are trading and talking about gossip (for women) and politics (for men). After hours of walking, I was able to get to the Hephaisteion.   I stayed for a while and witness the beauty of the temple. At noon, the heat at Athens   is topnotch so I stayed at the Stoa for cover. There are two kinds of Stoa, the one I stayed at was the Painted Stoa. It is a long covered hall that is open in one side and is decorated with many beautiful paintin gs.I spent almost an hour there and spent the whole time talking to people who get to engage in a conversation with me. It's really funny though for they will just come up to me and ask me something all of a sudden.I was so dumbstruck. At the right of Agora are the sacred places that can be found in the city like the Theatre of Dionysos, the Askelpieion, and most of all the Acropolis. After a while of wandering around, my attention got caught by a group of man loudly arguing among one another. I happened to ask someone about what's going on and he told me that the male citizen are debating about big decisions that affect the city. This place that I got into was called the Pnyx, the home of the assembly of people. However, I want to go to some quiet place instead and got interested in following young children each carrying small vases. I noticed I was back at the entrance of the city which was the Karameikos for I used the potteries as a landmark.By the end of the day, I decided to spe nd my time at the cemetery and stayed there till sunset. The cemetery was great for it really depicts the culture of the Athenians with their pottery and carvings. But what interests me most is the people's daily activities on the city. By what I've observed, they're almost routinary. Different kinds of people have specific type of jobs to finish each day. Even before the day starts people can be seen from all over the place.I came to ask a man why he was up so early and he said he had a trial and he have to prepare. Women get water from the fountains and traders are up for early trading. By mid-morning, servants are already working on their respective jobs. And by noon, the Agora and almost every plac ein Athens is so busy with people talking, doing business and many more.By mid afternoon, the place starts to quiet down and shops are preparing to close, this is my favorite part of the day in Athens for it is very peaceful and relaxing. And at last by midnight, servants start to rela x and even play games with their friends.I somehow got used to the busy and loud environment here at Greece. Though I'm not quite used to talking about politics all the time, or even some serious or religious topics like religion and life. Athens is a very economic centered city and almost all people has something to trade and has something to offer as livelihood. All over Greece, the people grew olives, grapes, and figs. They kept goats, for milk and cheese. In the plains, where the soil was more rich, they also grew wheat to make bread. Making it smell like a combination of vegetables and farm animals at the same time.I really liked it here so far. I wanted to explore the city more but I guess need to have more time. Nevertheless, today I was invited to go to a friend's house and spend the night there. I'm gonna have to take a look at a Greek house and be amazed once again.I'll write to you again very soon. Take care always. See you!
