William felt sorry for his mother, working so hard, and was trying his best to help her out financially. Unfortunately he couldn’t get a job. He has made some new friends in college which has had an enormous impact on his life. Within two months of studying he has begun to develop a disgusting attitude, disgusting behaviour and disgusting language. William always wondered where his mates got their new clothes from. Where do they get their money from – he knew his friends’ parents were not rich enough to buy them all this. One day, his friend Tom asked him to take a little envelope and take it to the location on the envolope. Before he said yes he asked his friend what is in the envelope. His friend exp lained there were some drugs in there which needed to be delivered. If he did him this favour his friend would help him make some money. After just a month William was making good money. He managed to treat himself and help his poor mother financially; his mother wondered where he was getting all the money from – he always ignored that question. After a few months of William doing so well he wanted more, more and more. Afterwards William gets introduced to a few gang members by Tom. Gang members were not sure about William, they wanted him to prove how cold hearted he was – they wanted him to prove that he was as hard as a bicep. They told him he would have to kill someone – deep down inside William was afraid but replied with confidence â€Å"give me that gun and show me the target†. A few days’ later two gang members take William for a drive and they end up smoking drugs and drinking alcohol in a car. Around midnight they see a lady walking into a block of flats, so they slowly follow her. William felt really cold, he got really nervous. They put a bag over her head and took her o nto the roof and assaulted her – one of the gang members pulled out a gun and handed it over to William. They told him she was a witness and she had to die. They put the bag over her head. William was stunned. The woman in front of him was his mum. William felt extremely shocked, upset and guilty. Christina Walsh, a female poet, wrote the poem ‘A woman to her lover’ as a free verse. A free verse is a poem with an irregular stanza length, no rhyme scheme and no syllabus count. Writing it as a free verse reflects her point which is women is can change their attitude towards men. Stanza one in Christina Walsh’s poem suggests slavery. She uses the word ‘bond slave’, which means a slave that does something without saying anything. Christina Walsh uses an image of a war, ‘as conqueror to the vanquished’. As she is the defeated, then she is forced, which shows that they are enemies. She does not want to be possessed by any one, she refuses it, and ‘O Lover I refuse you!’ she also uses an exclamation mark that shows she is serious. Christina Walsh uses alliteration of the letter ‘b’ throughout the whole poem. This is called a labial plosive. ‘To bend†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢, ‘bond slave†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ and ‘to bear’ are used in stanza one, this shows that she is angry and being very assertive. ‘To bear your children, wearing out my life’ uses caesura to balance the two ideas. He says ‘My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun’, this shows that she is not good looking; she is not beautiful. However, he concludes that even though she is not beautiful he loves her more than any beautiful girl has ever beenloved.The poem is a sonnet. This means it contains fourteen lines made up of three quatrains and a rhyming couplet at the end. Only in Shakespeare’s sonnets, the rhyming couplets conclude his point. The third stanza in ‘A Woman to Her Lover’ Christina Walsh is trying to show us that she will not be a sex object that satisfies her husband’s desires, and neither will any women of her time. She says ‘not for you the hand of any wakened woman of our time’. She uses the word ‘wakened’ to show that this concept is not for any woman, it is for any aware and educated woman that knows her rights. It's really funny though for they will just come up to me and ask me something all of a sudden.I was so dumbstruck. At the right of Agora are the sacred places that can be found in the city like the Theatre of Dionysos, the Askelpieion, and most of all the Acropolis.After a while of wandering around, my attention got caught by a group of man loudly arguing among one another.
